| Tours & Walks Tour of the Nathaniel Felton Junior House Saturday, September 4, 11:00 & 12:00 pm 43 Felton Street, Peabody free to the public Owned and operated by the Peabody Historical Society, the Felton Jr. House was one of the first homes built on Mount Pleasant in the Brooksby area of Salem (now Peabody) around the year 1700. The house was occupied for several generations by the Felton family, most notably by Nathaniel Felton Jr., who along with his father and 19 others, famously defended his neighbors, John and Elizabeth Proctor, during the witchcraft trials. Visitors can tour the house, stroll the grounds, and visit the petting zoo and farm stand at Brooksby Farm. This program is being offered in conjunction with Seventeenth Century Saturdays, an Essex National Heritage Commission regional program. In danger of being demolished, the house was moved by the Society from Aborn Street in Peabody to nearby Washington Street, and restoration is currently under way. Examine up close the elements of the Gothic Revival style including original trims, moldings, wallpapers, and finishes.This program is being offered in conjunction with Trails & Sails, an Essex National Heritage Commission initiative. |
