Woodland Garden
The Peabody Historical Society has established the Woodland Garden in the surrounding forest of its Felton-Smith Historic Site. Here, one can experience the natural beauty of spring bloom and fall color amidst the interesting varieties of trees and ornamental shrubs, or be amazed by winters unique ice formations among our rare evergreens.

Although most of our plantings are acquired by individuals or surrounding nurseries, the Peabody Historical Society has created a program that allows you to donate a shrub, tree, or even a garden bench, as a memorial to a loved one. The item will bear the identification tag, listing the date, the donor and remembrance name(s), as well as the botanical and common plant name.

The Woodland Garden Committee will be happy to discuss the purchase of the wide variety of plant species, its site selection, and ornamental characteristics.

This new garden area will help to maintain the balance of wildlife habitat and also create a privacy and sound barrier to compliment our historical rental properties, that are available for your special celebrations.

All of our new plantings require alot of care and inspection while adjusting to their new environment and progressing toward maturity. Our volunteer horticultural professionals constantly check soil conditions and water, fertilize, and prune to maintain optimum plant size and shape.

We can always use more help. If you enjoy learning about plants and trees, or just need some exercise and fresh air; come up to the Woodland Garden on a Saturday morning and we'll see you there!

It is our hope in the near future that our Woodland Garden will completely fill with colorful interesting cultivars for all to enjoy throughout our New England seasons...
