George and Rachel Shaw Scholarship
2020 George & Rachel Shaw Scholarship Winner
The winner of the $3,000 George & Rachel Shaw Scholarship sponsored by Mrs. Sylvia Shaw in honor of her parents is Erin Melin. Erin is a student at Salem State University. She has completed three semesters in art and design with a concentration in graphic design. She has worked multiple part-time jobs. In high school she was an intern at Peabody Access Telecommunications where she filmed and edited local community events. She also worked simultaneously at Treadwell’s Ice Cream, while maintaining a high GPA. She started doing some freelance graphic design work. Since she has taken a variety of art classes, she is considering minoring in advertising or marketing. As a result of conducting and presenting art history research for the Danvers Historical Society, she is planning on earning her Master’s Degree, in the hopes of teaching graphic design.
Andrew Metropolis History Scholarship
2020 Andrew M. Metropolis Scholarship Winner
The winner of the $2,500 Andrew M. Metropolis Scholarship funded by the Peabody Historical Society & Museum is Riley Gehan. After graduation from Peabody Veterans Memorial High School, Riley will be continuing his education at the University of Massachusetts in Lowell. His interest will be history and education. During his high school years while being on the Honor Roll, he participated in many community service activities including the Torigian Life Center Thanksgiving Brunch, The Greater Boston Food Bank, Challenger Basketball Program, Peabody’s Holiday Stroll & Tree Lighting Festivities and many others. Also, he worked at the North Shore Flag Football League as a referee and table manager and at Treadwell’s Ice Cream as a supervisor with many responsibilities. He plans on becoming a high school history teacher.
